Phelma attracts future engineering students

MINATEC’s new engineering school, Phelma, is attracting increasing numbers of students to the competitive common engineering school entrance exam. For the 2008–2009 school year, the school increased its average ranking (the number of eligible students who chose Phelma over other schools) by 500.


MINATEC, a gateway to employment

A survey of 179 Léti alumni (PhD and post-doc students, interns, and technological research graduates) revealed a 90% career placement rate: 60% of alums went on to permanent positions, 19% to temporary positions, while others went on to do post-doctoral studies or volunteer work abroad.


April 1–3, 2009: third edition of SEMI High Tech U

STMicroelectronics, Soitec, and Grenoble INP have partnered to offer the SEMI High Tech U program designed to spark interest in scientific and engineering careers among high school students. This year, the  program’s discovery activities included a Human Calculator at STMicroelectronics in Crolles, a clean room tour at MINATEC, and a catapult experiment at Soitec. To learn more, see

February 27, 2009: first-ever MINATEC Annual Meeting for Grad Students a success

PhD and post-docs met with professionals from the world of industry on February 27, 2009. More than 200 people attended the event, and several students even went home with job offers at the end of the day.


November 26, 2008: first MINATEC post-doc family social

Post-docs and their families got together for an informal social gathering at the MINATEC Meeting Center. The purpose was to give young researchers—especially those from outside France—a chance to get to know each other and to show their families where they work.


MINATEC Science Fair 2008 is a hit, with more than 750 visitors

MINATEC held its first-ever Science Fair on November 21–22, 2008. The event, held at the MINATEC campus, attracted a total of 750 visitors over the two days. Friday November 21 was exclusively dedicated to 250 high school students from around the region who enjoyed a personalized program and attended a special Science Fair edition of the “Midis MINATEC” brown bag lunch series.

The Science Fair was run jointly with science education group CCSTI. A total of 125 MINATEC staffers (from Phelma, CIME, FMNT, Inac, and Léti) helped with the organization.
