Cytoo was founded in 2008 in Grenoble. Barely a year later, the company was making its first sales to university research labs in Europe and the United States.  Cytoo’s business development model—unique in the biotech industry—has won over investors, allowing the company to raise €1 million and €3.2 million in capital in two campaigns, hire 12 employees, and open a subsidiary in the US.

The company’s cell culture supplies, designed for pharmaceutical research, have a unique capacity to “anchor” cells in specific locations due to their extremely precise geometry. This eliminates variability of morphology, shape, and behavior that can disrupt cellular testing and high-throughput cellular screening.

Cytoo leverages patents owned by CEA-MINATEC, Institut Curie, CNRS, and Harvard University for the development and manufacturing of its materials using a collective photolithography process carried out in Cytoo’s clean rooms on the MINATEC campus.

The company released its CYTOOchipsTM in 2009, and is expected to commercialize a second product, CYTOOplatesTM, designed for high-throughput cellular screening, in 2010.
