Movea, founded in 2007, develops consumer and B to B products that use motion sensing technology to detect the body’s position, direction, and movements for applications such as wireless computer mice and multimedia controls. The healthcare sector is another area where the technology can be used, whether it is for physical therapy or for remote monitoring for the elderly, for instance. It can also be used to analyze and improve athletic performance. Movea intends to pursue growth on all of these markets in the coming years.

The company reported revenue of $9 million in FY 2009 and has 56 employees. It has offices in California and a manufacturing joint venture in China. Movea is headquartered in Grenoble, where the company has created its Motion Lab, a joint R&D center with Léti-MINATEC. The Motion Lab counts ten full time researchers and engineers.

Movea’s ties to MINATEC don’t end there, however; CEA Investissement holds a stake in the company. Also in Grenoble, Movea has partnerships with INRIA and Tronic’s, a Léti spinoff specializing in microsystems.
