A magnetometer for Jean-Louis Etienne
Léti provided environmentalist and explorer Jean-Louis Etienne with a very high-resolution magnetometric sensor for his recent Arctic Challenge hot air balloon expedition over the North Pole. This sensor is based on a design that Léti developed for the Swarm space project, but with simplified control software and some mechanical adjustments.
Jean-Louis Etienne used the magnetometer to measure the Earth’s magnetic field for five days, despite numerous obstacles due to the challenging conditions encountered during the journey. The data will be broken down and analyzed, and sent to the Institut de Physique du Globe for use in its models.
